I really love camp because all we do is have fun. We swim every day, and when we don’t, we have a field trip. Thank you for being so kind to all of us. -- Aicha E.
The Need: Summer camp provides children with opportunities for growth, friendship, and new experiences, but many Wellesley families struggle to afford camp fees. Without financial assistance, these children miss out on the benefits of structured summer activities.
Our Response: Since 1942, Wellesley Friendly Aid has been making summer camp accessible to children from low-income families by providing scholarships. Most recipients attend camps run by the Wellesley Recreation Department, where they can engage in enriching activities in a safe and supportive environment.
The Impact: In 2024, 55 children received camp scholarships, giving them the chance to explore the outdoors, develop new skills, build friendships, and gain confidence.
Community Partners: This program is made possible through collaboration with town and school social workers, the Wellesley Recreation Department, Wellesley Service league, the House and Garden Club of Wellesley, and other local organizations. Together, we ensure that all children, regardless of financial circumstances, have the opportunity to enjoy a meaningful and memorable summer.
"Countless children have been able to experience the joys of our summer camps due to financial support from Wellesley Friendly Aid. Our partnership with WFA over the years has been invaluable."
-- Chad Norton, Associate Director, Wellesley Recreation Department.
