Luminary Night drew people together in community, and I interacted with neighbors I would never have talked to due to language differences. The room was filled with smiles and laughter.

The Need: Elderly and disabled residents living in Wellesley Housing Authority (WHA) low-income housing often experience social isolation, which can negatively impact their well-being. Many have limited opportunities for social interaction, making community engagement essential for their mental and emotional health.
Our Response: WFA hosts six annual events with refreshments, activities, and entertainment to bring joy and connection to these residents. In partnership with local community groups, we also deliver seasonal gifts, a tradition that began during the pandemic to provide comfort and support. Residents enjoy special treats on Luminary Night, a holiday celebration in December.
The Impact: Each year, our outreach efforts benefit over 100 households, offering residents meaningful social interactions, a sense of community, and moments of joy that help alleviate loneliness. Residents with limited resources feel supported and connected.
Community Partners: This program is made possible through collaboration with National Charity League, Inc., Wellesley High School Key Club and the Wellesley Housing Authority.
